Celebrating the life of
Evelyn Zyne Vaughn
October 06, 1948 - November 24, 2024
Evelyn Patricia Zyne Vaughn, 76, passed away peacefully Sunday November 24, 2024, surrounded by her family and compassionate ICU nurses at Memorial Hospital.
Evelyn was born in Miami, FL to her parents, Ellis and Alice Zyne. She grew up in Miami and began her college education at the University of Miami, later completing her studies at Armstrong College after moving to Savannah, GA in the early 1970’s.
In 1980, Evelyn met Frank (Tom) Vaughn of Aiken, SC and they were married the following year on April 10th, 1981. They shared over 40 beautiful years together before Tom’s passing last year. Evelyn has one daughter, one stepdaughter and eight cherished grandchildren. She was a devoted mother, volunteering at school events and being room mom.
Evelyn enjoyed a fulfilling career in IT, holding various roles over the years. Her longest tenures were Union Camp/International Paper and Gulfstream Aerospace. Outside of work, Evelyn was happiest in her garden, nurturing plants and creating beauty.
A member of St Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Wilmington Island, Evelyn gave her time generously, volunteering on church committees and assisting with preparations for Saturday Mass for years.
Evelyn had a special love for animals. She and Tom adopted numerous pets their daughters brought home over the years, but her beloved Lili held a special place in her heart. Lili joined the family when Tom, on a routine trip to the hardware store, returned with a dog instead of tools. From that day forward, Lili was a constant companion to Evelyn & Tom, sharing in all their adventures.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter Allison Stephanuik (Scott) of Jacksonville, FL; step daughter Amy Fabian (Thom) of Greenville, SC; grandchildren Vivienne, Aslan, August, Loreli, Crusoe, Ivy Wyn, Ryleigh, and Rhett; sister Lisa Kirk (Bill); sisters-in-law Susan Zyne, Claudia Harrell, and Jean Vaughn; brother-in-law Leighton Vaughn, Jr; her cousin and best friend Margaret Ganem; many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Tom, her parents Ellis & Alice Zyne, brother Edward Zyne, and brother-in-law Paul Vaughn.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the extraordinary caregivers who cared for both Evelyn and Tom in recent years. Their kindness and support became an invaluable part of the Vaughn Family.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Greenwich Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Evelyn’s name to Renegade Paws Rescue, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing animals in need. https://www.renegadepawsrescue.org/donate?mibextid=Zxz2cZ
Evelyn will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her legacy of love, service, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
